Moses
World Premiere
by Dan Montez
In his ninth oratorio based on prominent Biblical figures, Dan Montez has tackled the larger than life character of the man who freed Israel from Egypt, who parted the Red Sea, and brought the world the Ten Commandments. Other oratorios and operas have been written on the subject. But Montez, in his characteristic style, abandons much of the pomp and pageantry of most of these works for something more sacred and devotional. The work is inspired by the impressionism of Fauré and Ravel, the calculations of Prokofiev, and the harmonic fluidity of Rachmaninoff and Puccini. Montez will conduct the work himself. It will feature the orchestra, soloists, and chorus of the Taconic Opera.
